Options for sick and injured workers now that JobKeeper has ended

As we all know, the JobKeeper wage subsidy concluded at the end of March 2021. However, the COVID-19 crisis is not over, and nor is the economic hardship caused by the rolling lockdowns that we’re continuing to witness. Many businesses that relied on the subsidy to keep their doors open are being forced to let staff go. Sadly, we know that the first staff members to lose their jobs are often those that suffer from injury or illness. This loss of income can be incredibly distressing if it coincides with your realisation that you can no longer work due to that injury or illness. If this has happened to you, you may be eligible to make a total and permanent disability (TPD) or income protection claim through your super. This blog highlights what you need to know.

CLAIMING TPD MAY BE POSSIBLE FOR INJURED AND SICK WORKERS AFTER JOBKEEPER ENDS

Income protection and TPD benefits can provide much needed financial support to those that are unable to work due to illness or injury. You may be eligible to make an insurance claim even where JobKeeper played a role in you ceasing work. For example, we’ve heard from clients with chronic conditions or illnesses that it took them being forced to leave their job to realise that their condition had gotten the better of them. Importantly, your injury or illness does not have to be related to your work. We’ve helped clients with the following illnesses and conditions make successful claims:

· multiple Sclerosis

· cancer

· motor neurone disease

· Parkinson’s disease

· asthma

· chronic heart disease

· fibromyalgia

· depression

· chronic fatigue syndrome Want to know more? Read: “I have a chronic illness. Am I eligible for TPD benefits?”
